The Novato Police Department is deeply saddened to share the sudden loss of recently retired Novato Police K9 Lex. Lex, a 10 year old Belgian Malinois, became ill and was taken to a local vet for treatment on Monday afternoon. Lex was then transported to the VCA Animal Care Center of Sonoma County for additional treatment, but unfortunately passed away just after 9 pm Monday evening. Lex was surrounded by his handler, family and members of the Novato Police Department at the time of his passing.
We are thankful for the dedicated medical staff at South Novato Animal Hospital and at VCA Animal Care Center of Sonoma County for the care and comfort they provided to Lex and his family.
Lex had a wonderful, full career and was a valued member of the Novato Police Department. Lex retired in January after working eight and a half years in our patrol division serving the community of Novato.
Lex, thank you for your eight years of unwavering service to The City of Novato. We are forever grateful. Rest in peace buddy, we’ll take it from here.
